Urea Nitrogen (UN)
L-Type UNFor In Vitro Diagnostic Use
Intended Use
L-Type UN is an in vitro assay for the quantitative determination of UN in serum, plasma or urine.
Method
Urease·GIDH Method
Special Characteristics
L-Type UN is not interfered significantly by other serum components.
Principle of the Method
Urea in a sample is decomposed to produce ammonia and carbon dioxice catalyzed by urease. In the presence of α-ketoglutarate and β-Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, reduced form (NADH), this ammonia causes the oxidation of an equal amount of NADH to NAD in a reaction catalyzed by glutamate dehydrogenase (GlDH). The decrease in absorbance of NADH at 340nm i directly proportional to the amount of urea nitrogen in the sample.
